SHOCKING SCENES WITNESSED.

Tit connection with the explosion at the .Ha id win munition works, the dead total 12-j, the majority being girls. One hundred and fifty were injured. Scores wore blown to pieces. in addition to the dynamite, 10.000 shrapnel exploded. The explosion is believed to be the work of spies. A number of suspects, including a German sailor, have been arrested. The officials are certain it was not an accident. Awful scenes were witnessed. Girls with their clothes ablaze were blown high in the air, and their mangled remains recovered- Women's bodies were found in heaps inside the building. The occurrence has caused nationwide horror and anger.

THE LINER NEW YORK.

MINED DURING A BLIZZARD CREW SHOW SPLENDID DISCIPLINE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Received April 12, 2.50 p.m. LONDON, April 11. The American liner Now York, 10,798 ions, was mined during a blizzard. The rescue of sixty passengers was difficult, the huge sens which wore washing the vessel making the launchin pof the boats perilous. Captain Roberts' orders were carried out with military precision, and everyone safely reached the boats. The liner was towed into dock. The New York was armed fore and aft, and had naval gunners aboard. The passengers had just finished dinuer when there was a- terrific explosion on the port side and everyone rushed out of the saloon and lined up for the boats. There was some excitement, especially among the women, but they were soon calmed by the officers. The passengers were half an hour in the boats before the rescue vessels arrived.
