Vote lor THURSDAY The advocates of Saturday closing have persisted in forcing a poll. This means a contest involving considerable expense; the many shopkeepers whose businesses would be injured by Saturday closing are compelled to spend money in selfdefence. In other words, they have been forced into absolutely unnecessary expenditure. The question is one which ought to have been postponed until after, the war. Only the other day, in. an eloquent appeal to the people of Wanganui, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. G. W. Russell, said: "The call to economy, to the abolition of luxuries, to the restriction of all unnecessary expenditure, was clamant, and should be incessant until the remainder of the war; as regards not only our Public Bodies and and Institutions, but also in connection with personal and domestic expenditure that can be postponed until after the war should be."
