GIRL MURDERED.
HOUSE ABOUT S TERRIBLE DEED. (Per Press Association.) CHIRSTCHURCH, April 8. About 10 o’clock this morning a girl named Henrietta Foster, aged 18, was murdered by Charles Butler, aged 40, at View Hill station, ten miles from Oxford, North Canterbury. The girl’s father is caretaker of View Hill, and, with his wife and two daugnters, went to church at Oxford, leaving Henrietta at the house. Butler, who was rouseabout on the place, got a nasor from his hut, entered the homestead kitchen, where Henrietta Foster was tatting on a sofa darnfmg stockings, and cut her throat from ear to ear. There was no other interference with tho girl. Butler unsuccessfully attempted to drown drown himeslf in a well. Butler was arrested and admitted tne crime. He was brought to Christchurch. Butler is well known in the Oxford district, where ho has been for some years. He is a thrifty man, with a largo sum to bis credit at the bank.
