Southern visitors who are now tourin'! the North with the Parliamentary parti have obtained some of their most favour able impressions *•{ th" Nort’-’-'i'n ler*- 1 * during the past three days. The broai and fertile hills and dales of the Hokianga districts seen on Wednesday and yesterday opened their eyes consiatiaOij, whilst the splendid land seen to-rtav u Okaihau and from there to Kaikohci deepened the favourable impression. Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., in his speech at Okaihau this morning, said that there appeared to be an impression abroad that scientific Taming was universal in the South and quite unknown north cf Auckland. This, he said was incorrect. He could take them to places south of Auckland where they would find fatf more lack of scientific fanning andfai mors noxious weeds than in the North- “ The people in the North,” he said, “are too modest. It is an absurd idea that wb have come np here to teach you how to farm your lands. You know bow to do it. The people in the South are not the only pebbles on the beach, j Many of us came up here believing that the North was poor and non-progressive, but I for one have changed my mind* The land that we saw at first was rather poor, but it has been getting better and better. We have a lot to learn about the North, and we have come up here to learn all we can. Of course, it is absurd to eay that we know all about i! after galloping through it in motor cars or wading through a portion of it.
