Senator Root during the course of his speech said:— “I am grateful with all my heart to the Allied soldiers, who are fighting for liberty and peace. My children’s children and our liberty and security depend on the destruction and abandonment of the stated principle of national aggrandisement and immorality.” Senator Root added that he approved of President Wilson’s speech because he interpreted it as implying the crushing of Prussian militarism.
