CROPS IN CANTERBURY.

During the last three weeks, says a Christchurch paper, the crops in the Rakaia district have suffered severely. In a few cases some which were affected by the late frost are now cut and in etook, and, although they look good crops from a distance, only about half the heads have .wheat in * them. The north-west winds have also damaged the ripe crops, and some farmers estimate their loss at three bushels per acre. The hailstorm of last week did a great deal of damage in some parts, not only" to standing crops, but also to those in stook. Some of the rape and turnip crops arc looking good, but are badly in need of 24 hours’ heavy rain. Altogether, the onltok of tlia farmer is not a pleasant one. Stoats are becoming very numerous Tn the Ashburton district, and many have been seen of late in the Domain. The recent rains have had a wonderful effect on th rape crops in the Ashburton County, and many which were being fed off have been closed up, and are coming away splendidly. The turnip crops have made a good strike, and given a. few showers of rain should make . rapid growth. Late potato crops have also a good recovery, but the earlysown ones are making a second growth.
