CONFUSED AND SEVERE FIGHTING. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, November 4. An East African communique says: German forces which were dislodged from Tabora have been endeavouring to break through to Mahenge. Confused and severe fighting has occurred in the direction of Iringa since Octoter 22. A small detachment of Rhodesian police, under Colonel Baxindale, was ambushed and suffered heavily. Colonel Baxindale was wounded and captured, A strong.; German force suffered similarly on the 23rd, 12 miles north of Iringa. The commander was wounded and captured. A strong German attack against Iringa was beaten off. Northey’s column was engaged successfully on the Ruhudje River, south-west of Mahenge.
