CALL FOR MEN.

69 WANTED BY NEXT FRIDAY. Last night -instructions were received from headquarters by Lieut. Dixon, in charge of the Wanganui district, to find 69 men, to be sent to Trentham before next Friday. Fifty infantry, 15 mounted rifles, and four Army, Service Corps men are required. Men may; If they please, be sent to Trentham immediately, on being accepted, apdthulW obviate any waiting. If any men who-have registered for the 10th Reinforcements wish to. proceed /to camp immediately, the£ will have an opportunity of joining in with the extra men Required for next week. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON'S PARADE. About 25 men paraded at the Drill Hall yesterday afternoon, in answer to the urgent call which was made on Thursday afternoon. About half a dozen Of these paraded for medical inspection. Arrangements have now been altered, and the men will leave Wanganui ...on. Monday by the early, morning train. Cutfleld. : SEND-OFF SOCIAL. : In spite, of the very short notice given, there was a very large atten-. dance at Dustin’s last night, when the men who are leaving for Trentham on Monday were entertained'at a social evening. A. considerable, number of ladies were present, and the proceedings Were of a most cordial and pleasant nature, a good musical programme being supplied. Addresses' were given by the Mayor (Mr C. K. Maekay),,who presided, and by Mr W. A. Veltch, M.P. Mr A. E. T. Nixon, . on behalf of the men, returned thanks, apd called for three cheers for the ladies. At the conclusion of the social “Auld Lang Syne” and the “National : ’Anthem” was sung, after which the recruits were lined up and were briefly : addressed by the Mayoress. The ladies present then shook hands with them, . wishing each and all the best of good . luck and,a safe return.
