A mo'ion was passed by the meeting extending its deepest sympathy to those who had lost relatives at the front. On Tuesday evening last the members of the maintenance workshops, Eaatown, and the Railway National Reserve md at the social hall to bid farewell to Mr W. P. Nowsham, who has been selected N.C.O. in the Artillery of the 9th Reinforcements. The gathering was presided over by Mr W. Pirie, who read anoloj pies from Mr Charles Bathgate and. Mr I M. Pritchard. Tho chairman,, in a feeling, speech; made a presentation of a wristlet watch and pocket wallet, also a silver salver for Mrs Newsham, and in ■ doing so'spoke of the many good qualities of Mr Newsham'.and : the manv sacrifices he was making; in leaving his wife and child to assist in upholding the hou-v-.bur of-■ his country in this great and righteous war, and trusted to be able to welcome him bunk at the close of the crisis covered with glorv.
