On Tuesday evening, the usual weekly meeting of the AVesley Guild was hold, when a paper was read by the Rev. AV. Smith on “The Singing Note in Methodism.’’ The subject was an interesting one and was thoroughly enjoyed by those present. The St. John Ambnlance Association is establishing a class for home nursing for men on Tuesday next, 7ch September, at 7.30 p.m., at Christ Church Schoolroom. Dr. Crawfoid will be the lecturer. The Druids of Wanganui propose holding a Patriotic Plain and Fancy Dress Dance in aid of the Patriotic Funds, in the Druid’s Hall, on Thursday next, 9th September. The committee are working assiduously to make it a success, and as the floor is in first-class order, an enjoyable time is promised to patrons. AOTEA CONVALESCENT HOME. • The Mayoress and the wives of the borough councillors and heads cf the borough departments invite the ladies of Wanganui to a farewell and equipment tea in honour of the members of the staff of the Aotea Convalescent Borne, who are shortly leaving for tne front. The function will be held on Monday next, September 6, at the Druids’ Hall, frem 3 to 5 p.m. A suitable musical programme has been arranged. All are cordially invited. and it is suggested that each •hould bring with her some small article of equipment for the home. The following us a list of the various things required, all of which will be acceptable c.ntiibutions: —Cigarettes (tins’) tobacco, pipe--, matches, shaving ma’er al (razors, strops, soap, etc.), stationery (paper, envelopes, ink pencils, etc.), bcot laces, nail brushes, hair brushes and c.- ,, ’bs, tooth brushes, tcoth paste, swee's (in tins), chocolate (plain, in tins), biscuits, jam (tins), honey (tins), draughts, chess, quoits, games of all descriptions, books and magazine, bagatelle board, gramaphone and records, Keetings powder, pepper and salt castors, troy cloths.
