EXTRAORDINARY FATALITY

E-sfh'aordiitary circumstances .surrounding the death of Arthur -Webber,; until a few weeks ago residing ip Picton, were the subject.of inquiry at Whangarei today. The evidence showed that deceased was employed- at the Whangarei freezing works on July 15, was working on a plank which ’broke,-'.and" the deceased fell ten feet on to Die concrete; On August 10 he complained- of pains in the stomach, and was sent.to the Whangarei Hospital. Paralysis developed, an operation took place, and it was found ,that deceased had cracked , part of" his backbone. The verdict was’ death due to ascending inflammation of the spinal cord as the result of injury received on July 15 by falling on to a concrete floor. The deceased wa,middle-aged, and left a wife and four hiiildreU,. who -have only arrived in Whan,g|irei since the accident. ' ■ - ■
