The Wanganui Herald (Published Daily.) MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1914. THE ELECTION.

There are hut ten days to the election, when the fata of the parties will be decided. Thera should be no apprehension as to the issue. It is plain. It is whether the control of the country’s affairs is to be again entrusted to the care of the self-styled Reformers, or whether the Liberals, whose humanitarian and progressive legislation occupies such a prominent place on the Statute Book of New Zealand, shall be permitted to further advance the welfare of the people'. The Liberals were driven out by bogus charges of wrong-doing. Prior to the last election the wildest statements, \tore., made against them. They were openly accused by the Massey Party of being guilty of bribery and corruption, and were compared with Tammany. Their administration was condemned by the Masseyites in wholesale fashion, and their expenditure and borrowing were characterised as extravagant and 'ruinous. In fact, no condemnation was considered too strong by the . “Reformers,” whose offensive epithets were printed and scattered broadcast throughout New Zealand. “Reform” administrators sought power with certain objects in view. They' won it by devious methods, and they have honored' their obligations to those who viewed them as instruments in their hands. But as honest and capable administrators the “Reformers” have most miserably failed, and next week they will be ejealt with summarily on impeachments which bespeak inherent and characteristic defects in : their actual performances. There is no need to return evil for evil and charge the Maesey Party with corruption; .the plain evidences of huge blunders are the most striking features in the political panorama of to-day. All that is needed is that the “Reformers” shall be judged according to their utterances 'and their reputation for honesty of purpose and, truthfulness. There, are unmistakable signs tha| the judgment and the votes of the electors will on the whole be sane this time, and that they will not be aside as they were at last election by any sinister influence.,
