The Wanganui Herald. (Published Daily.) SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1914. LIBERALISM VINDICATED.

The speech delivered, by Mr J. T. H6gan in the Opera House last evening. Was a powerful vindication of Liberalism and ;a damning indictment of self-stiled, or as Mr Hogan put it, “so-called”,. Reform,. It must have been gall and wormwood to the followers, of Mr Massey‘and the supporters of Mr Pirani -to have their idol “Reform” shattered in such, a merciless manner, but the trutii will out. The story of the broken promises, the unfulfilled pledges, and tho utter failure of the Massey Government to make good must have shattered what faint hopes the local Reformers present may have entertained concerning their candidate’s chances of success. On the other hand, the wonderful record of the Liberal party was logipally and impressively pourtrayed. Liberalism’s record, will triumphantly stand analysis, and Mr Hogan did, well to remind those of his audience who are already acquainted with the history of the Liberal Party in New Zealand and inform newcomers of the greatly altered conditions for. the better which were brought about by the first Liberal administration under John Ballance and his successors. No other political party in New Zealand can faintly compare with the Liberals in things done for human betterment as a result of the progressive legislation which has been placed on the Statute Book by'them. The preservation’ of vested interests has never been allowed to frustrate Liberal conviction, and its record in the past is what it rests on fqr authority to go on in the future. Extreme pressure on our columns prevents us referring... at greater length to Mr, Hogap’s speech, the report of which ’n another, column we commend ‘ to the consideration of oiir readers. ,
