CLAIM FOR MONEYS DUE. WAGES AND BOARD AND LODGING EXPENSES. The troubles of the life of a travelling' •bowman was tokl by the parties to a civil claim at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when P. Carlson, who dcsrnbrn himself as a travelling musician, sued W. E. Harvey, a travelling showman, for £4 15s for salary due and for board and lodging expenses. According to the story told by the plaintiff, he. was engaged by Harvey to 'our with the company at a salary of £3 oer week and expenses. The. company came to Wanganui, and witneis was told bv defendant that he would be responsible for the lodging-house expenses. The money had not been paid, and lie was nimmoned for it by the proprietor. His statement rc the. payment of the b.oavd-’ng-honse expenses was 1 corroborated by another witness.

The defendant, in his evidence, denied that he waa the manager of the company, and declared that he was not resronsiblc, for the debt, but ho was prepared to ru* a portion of it.' He went on to sry that during the Hawora Show the proprietors of three shows, which were then at Ilawera, decided to combine and go"on ton". The first place of call was Wanganui and witness, on behalf of the other two men, asked Carlson to join the company, promising him £'i per week and expense'. Defendant put money into the show, as did launders, one of the partners. Saunders put in .£l2 and defendant .£9. '■»n arrival at Wanganui ,£lO was paid for the hall. The arrangement between Hie partners was that each should receive one-third—Saunders, Crawford, and defendant. The takings at Wanganui amounted to £l7 11s, which, when all expenses wore paid, left £4 ss. The bench wore of opinion that defendant had acted in the part of manager,and gave judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed as well as cos's.

In connection with the company, claims for board and lodging were laid by J. Baeovitch against Crawford for ,t'l 15s. and against Carlson for a like amount. In eaak case judgment wan given for the plaintiff.
