EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT.

By Myles B. llyndc. Ou Saturday the meet was at Whcuuakura, the property of Mr Aif. Symes. The morning broke crisp and clean, and as u hearty welcome and a good bay's sport could be anticipated, a Very large muster of followers and oh.ookers rolled up to partake of Mr and Airs Cymes’ hospitality. Arrived at the homestead an excellent ' luncheon awaited ns, and as the keen uintry air had whetted our usually healtny appetites, it is needless to say that Mrs Symes’ efforts was much appreciated. The wants of the inner man having been attended to. Huntsman Berryman soon had his hounds in motion. The hounds being thrown off in front of the house, ran down towards the road, hut puss took refuge in the adjoining gully. Another havip was soon ou loot, and took us down towards the river, was lost in the cover; after fossiking about, for some time, the bounds got on the track of a good strong hare wnicb, crossing the paddocks in trout of the house, ran up towards Palmer's, then across towards •the main road, and back again past the front of the bouse, and took refuge in the guily. Here Huntsman Herrymau ran her to earth after a persistent search, and Hie hounds were rewarded by their first kill. A Couple of paddocks at the back of the house were drawn blank, when a good stiff-necked hare got up under our noses, and away she rattled .right down to the Wheimakuiv., and turning ran up past Palmer’s on Mr Houcylield, where she was lost utter a rattling good run. Most of us had enough, and the Huntsman calling together his hounds, we trot ted back to the -Homestead, quite prepared for the good cheer that awaited ns. The very recherche afternoon tea was much appreciated, the good things ,having liven done full justice to, Mr Morton, on behalf of the Hunt, thanked Mrs .Symes and the willing assistants for their geiieloa.> hospitality, .and MeSsrs Symes add Honeyfiekl for kindly placing their properties at the disposal of the hunt. Three hearty cheers, and we reluctantly had to bid larcwcll to the Symes.’ for another twelve mouths. Amongst those following were—Deputy Master 11. P. Airs Booth, MUs Booth, Air and Miss Kennedy, Mr and Airs F. Hawkcn, Mrs and Alisse.s i O’Leary, Airs E. Symes, ’ Aliss Symes, Airs Hunter, Aliss AlcOregor, Miss Burke. Motoring were Miss M. Bremer, Mr and Mrs Walkington, Mr and Mrs S. Moffett, Mr S. Morton, Misses Luptou, Air Beid, Airs Blair, Airs Bremer, Airs B. 11. Nolan, Aliases J. Dune, Aliss Glasgow. On Saturday the Itangitikei hounds met at Glcnmore, and a very good afternoun's sport was marred by an unfortunate accident which befel the popular wife of the. master of the llangitikci hounds. - It was only a small wire fence with spar. The light was not too good, hut she was mounted ou her trusty old Black Watch, and he must have gone too close, as he rolled over her, breaking her collarbone and two ribs. The accident put Unite a damper ou the afternoon's sport. We. trust, however, to hear of her speedy recovery. Amongst the others who kissed M il her Earth was the popular squire of Parorangi. 11c got a good roll off Scout, but was up in half a minute, none the worse for Ins slight discomfiture. Air .lark Mv-Leau had the misfortune to lose the ehilnce bf picking up a. hunt steeplechase through his clever little horse getting into a wire fciicc and cutting his hock. The big fences were, all jumped well, the small fences causing all the trouble.
