A large meeting of citizens at the Town Hall, tho Lord Mayor presiding, decided to appeal to tho Privy Council against the High Court decision in the Government House eviction case. Subscription lists were opened to meet the costs of the appeal, and £BOO was subscribed in tlie room. Tho speakers claimed that tho majority of tho people favour retaining Government House as a residence for the Governor-General.
