AN APPEAL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Dear Boss. Being unable to read or write, I am taking this opportunity of allowing a tradesman—the only soul 1 see for hours at a time—to write to you on my behalf through the medium of the Press. Well, dear boss, I have worked foe you hard from daylight to dark many days—worked until the pads have been worn off my poor feet and then been forced to work on the raw flesh on hard roads, for no pay but simply a bit of tucker while you, dear boss, have not been off your horse the whole day. Now, dear boas, is my present treatment and my treatment for weeks past a reward foe my hard work on your behalf. May J ask what have I done to merit your inhuman treatment of mo. dear boss? Why am I chained night and day to a single stake driven into the hard ro id down nea? the waters edge not 109 miles from Kaitoke lake in the open, and with absolutely no shelter from the hard frosts, bitint? winds, or driving rain—no, not even the shelter of a friendly gorse bush. As you lire aware, dear boss, there are dayswlinv it is raining hard, that I cannot even lie down unless it is in the running water from that bleak gully near by. Could you just endure one hour of the agony you are heaping upou me I feel sure you would ask the kindly tradesman who is writing on my behalf to send along a necking case into which I could crawl at times, and save ray poor cold body from the winter’s cold, wet, or frost when you are snugly tucked under ybnr blankets of wrapped in your military coat.—l am, CtC ” YOUR FAITHFUL DOG.
