Poor Cohvillo Dogs. TO’.'tHK EDITOJI. Sir, —lu your last night’s (here was a very amusing letter signed “Cams Caveat.’’ He speaks of one" • particular dog that has done damage to his garden and-has stolen quantities of legs of mutton. Now, sir, can you blame the dog? If people will leave their legs of mutton where every stray dog can get them it is their look out. “if “Cauls Caveat doesn’t like to shoot the dog with his gun, why doesn't he - poison it? lie can uiy poison and kill all the Gouville dogs; they won’t say anything. lie says if a dog is worth owning it is worth a collar anti chain. But, sir, if we always kept onr dogs oh a chain, without exercise, .we would bo prosecuted by the Society’ for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: sc yon see we arc between the devil and the deep blue sea. if we let our dogs off the chain they naturally wander and follow the scent of dead sheep which are lying about for the benefit of oar health, r Jhen if the dogs arc seen near there they have you again for sheep-worrying. I think people should get rid of their dogs, and keep rabbits in cages; then there will act be any trouble.—l am, etc.. C. PEAUCE. Bignell Street, Gcnvillp. Borough Amalgamation. TO THE KDITOU. Sir,—--Your suggesTo.! in ia.-t ri'ht’i ■‘Herald’’ is, I think, well worth giving ‘fleet to. Eicm the broader standioint there arc many good reasons v, by r. t lead the Gonvilie Town District should bo included with the W an.or.u ii Borough. Thi ‘resent time is a most opportune one, to, 1 possible, bring : boat the amalgamation •onville, owing to its phenomenal;'.y rapid settlement and its consequent expo ;sivr vqnircmcnts, has a comprehensive scheme of water, drainage, and street improvement in hand, which the Town Board ore now about to place .before its rate payers. If this is adonted, and the work •lommenced, I believe the ratepayers would ho leas inclined to consider a proposal fo • amalgamation than at the present time. In any ease, a conference would ] rov beneficial to all parti-'s eonc<-.icd. Mr .enable the different autho"’ .vs of each listrict to have somethin l ' Ciite tonne before their respective ( ..tnents, whe>‘ they of course, would ultimately decide whether amalgomal ion should take i lace >r not.—l am, rte., A. G. BIGKKLL. ]TIio fact of amalgamation taking place iced not interfere with the Board’s pro•osals for farther improvements, which ■onld he carried out under the super•Bit.u of the Borough Engineer. The •malgamation and loan t roposals eorld hj •übniilted together to the ratepayers. We rould suggest that the Mayor invite roiresentatives of the districts coaeorned to i confeieme.—Ed. W.H. - ).
