The usual monthly meeting of the above was held last evening, when there wore present Messrs W. K. McLean (presiding), 11. Bice, H. J. Tumor, G. 11. Boyd, and F. Webb-Joncs. Apologies were received from absent members. SAND DRIFT.—A letter was received from the Castleelifl Town Board agreeing to pay half of the cost, the Tramway Board’ to pay the other half of planting, tho portion of the sea front west o’f tho 'town Belt Road.

OFFICIAL TIME-TABLE.—The application of tho Westbourno Seaside Company for the right to print the Board's official time-table was granted. SURF CLUB. —The secretary of the Surf Club wrote asking if the Board would forward the subsidy of .£lO granted to the club.—Resolved to ask the club for a statement of accounts and for information respecting the direction in which the subsidy would bo expended. ■ TIME-TABLE. —Inspector McCuno reported that ho had, as instructed, gone mto tho matter of altering the time-table, so as to bring the total number of car miles per annum nearer the minimum number required to bo taken under contract with the borough, viz., 120,000. The present time-table worked out at approximately 100,0,00 miles, including specials, and if one car were added all day, the minimum would be exceeded by about 7000 miles. Ho therefore suggested that an extra car should be put on from 12 noon till 8 p.m. during the winter months, say from April till October, and an extra car all day during summer—from Novem- , her till March, This would bring the net car mileage to 116,732 miles, leaving 3268 ■ for extras and specials. The extra oar would be run mostly on tho loop lines in winter, and to Castlecliff in summer.—A committee was appointed to interview the Borough Council concerning the car mileage, and other matters'. FINANCES. —A statement of receipts and payments for tho year ending 31st March, 1913, was presented by the secretary. The receipts totalled £3BBI 6s 7d, including fares £3215, rent of tea -kiosk I £62. and special rates £1603. Tho payments totalled £3947, including oar mile ago to borough £1941, salaries (secretory and inspector) £ll9, printing, stationery, ' and advertising £34, interest on loons ! £1440. The net revenue account showed—i special rates collected £1591, outstanding rates £l5B, balance brought forward £ll6, total £2198. Interest on debentures £1312, i accrued sinking fund £204, leaving a balance, .to 31st March. 1913, of £679.

I In ,view of the adverse criticism levelled at those who suggested and supported the proposal to send th|e Wanganui and district school children' to Wellington to kpo the battleship Now Zealand, it is of ini crest to hpto that the Minister for Hail ways has consented to run special trains from Tflnani 1 to Lyttelton when the battleship visits tbo latter popt. as it is feared that | unless the ‘.wenther and the sea. are «t----j ccptionaUV faypurabje there will bo a diTI culty, and iqddedkomo danger, in taking a tender alongside tips great cruiser in the open roadstpaid. at Timnrn.

1 W Imtovor explanation may bo suggested ! by the. Chrbnldle vvitli respect to tbo ati titndc of tho ; W'aitptara County Council towards the Circular letter gent by the Government inquiring what grants. ■\vorn nieded for rosfd. and bridge ■works, the laid remains that when the letter was .'lad ,only one member suggested a work towards which , Government assistance Might bo secured, hut;the. suggestion fell lb' tbo chairman!-.remarking' that' the noil had received eq: little help from i ■•!•<*• Government in the past so far as !tr~i.rls were concerned—and the County’s r'inurements were not nearlv so pressing a-i other counties—that ho thought there | hi He use applying for grants. However, on his suggestion it was decided to defer action for* a mouth to give the Pv. j Sfiueer an opportunity of reporting on the j requirements of the district. The Chronicle refers to an area of about 80,000 acres 1 as being roadless in the northern part of , the Wkitqtara County, but this, it should bo explained, is principally Government .and native land, and the responsibility for road in" same rests with the owners, and not with tbo County, though the latter undertakes to superintend the expenditure, ns.. haa been done by other counties.
