THE DRIVERS’ DISPUTE.
(Per Unite-d Press Association.) PALAIKKSTON N., June 5. The Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Drivers' Union ha., passed the following resolution--“That this meeting a| proves of the stand representatives of the Federation have taken to maintain the .principle that all time worked by drivers .shall he paid for, and will loyally abide by and support any movement in that direction.”
STRIKE AT HI K'JRANCH WHANGARFI, June fi. The strike, which is affecting GO employees in the Northern Coni Company's mine, Hikurangi, is still unsettled. The weighbridge over which the dispute arose registers only in stone* (Hlb), and the men claim this affects the actions of their work detrimentally since the manager declares a give-and-take basis. The strikers’ requests for a conference with the directors have been refused until the latter know if the Federation of Labour is behind the strikers. This the men refuse to disclose, but state that the whole difficulty will lie settled in half an hour if a conference is granted. In the meantime passive determination is the order.
