THE MOVEMENT OF POPULATION

(By Telegraph.—Special to HkraldA Di-mJNGTON, June 7. A remarkable set of population from Now Zealand to Australia is noticeable in the statistics of immigration and emigration for the month of April. The arrivals at New Zealand ports totalled 3337, and the departures 4263 —a net loss of 928. The Dominion gained substantially, as usual, on its exchange with the Old Country, but it lost heavily to New South Wales, whither went 2839 persons, as against 1571 who came the other way—a loss of 12?8 to New Zealand. But this appears to be the bad season of the year for immigration, the figures for the corresponding month of the previous year showing the same deficiency though it was more than overcome during the remainder of the year.
