LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL LEADERSHIP.

WELLINGTON, June 7 In connection with the Prime Minister’s statement that the leadership of the Legislative Council was offered to a Dunedin representative and refused, I understand on mind authority that it was the Hon, J, B. Calkin who had tbe opportunity, and that he declined because the Government wished the post to be held without portfolio or salary.
