SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the above was held last evening. Present—Messrs Fred. Pirani (chairman), F. Purnell, A. Fraser, <j. H. Dennett, P. O’Dea, and F. M. Spurdle. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs J. P. Aldridge, E. Dixon, and D‘. H. Guthrie, M.P. APPOINTMENTS'. ■ Appointments were approved by School Committees as follow: —Apiti, Miss B. A. Liggins, Kanuni, two weeks; Miss McLean, Mt. Curl, two weeks. DEPUTATION. Mr Abel waited ,on the Board in connection with a lengthy letter from the Hunterville’ Committee, requesting tho establishment of a District High School in that "town . The’ request was supported bv 16 other committees.—The Chief Inspector has to visit the district and go fully into the matter. . GENERAL. • The following tenders -were- accepted: —■ 'Additions -to Okoia School, £216 15s, Messrs Walpole and Darlington ; erection of Techipcal Schoql at , Manaia,, -£416, Messrs Gibb and Wills! Mr Spurdle and the-Chief Inspector are to consult with- the Wanganui Schools Committee regarding the appointment of a staff to the new Infants! School. The chimney at'Taikorea. is to he renaifed. The Boatd will abide by its grant for fencing.. ~ Repairs are to be carried out at Parewanui. Brunswick was granted 23s'6d for new gate and post for residence. Mr Croft is to undertake repairs ■ at Stanway. The Rata Committee is to he informed that the Board intends to adhere to its original decision in refusing a grant for fencing. The stfm of £lO was granted for a new shelter shed. An estimate as to repairs is to ho obtained from the Waverlev Committee. The matter of repairs at Mokoia waa le f t in the hands of Mr O’Dea. The Wanganui Schools Committee wrote re the cost of cleaning schools, fires, rebuilding, etc., having increased the expenses.—The committee was granted £2O Mr Purnell is to report on claying the site at Oroua Downs The Chief Inspector is to report on th" advisability of establishing/ a school at Kakatihi, The Te Roti- Committee wrote tendering their resignation in a body as a protest against the Board’s action in connection with the closing of the school on election day.—Arrangements are to be made for a fresh election. The Whakamara Committee’s withdrawal of their "resignation was ; accepted. The Education Department notified that, a grant of £671 had been made for additional engineering ; equipment at - the Wanganui Technical College.
