BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

Two shipments of native trees from Mr Travers, Wellington, came to hand by the Arapawa yesterday. In all there are about 2500 plants of the following varieties:—Metorosideros lucida (South Island rata), Meterosideros robnsta, (North island rata), Libroccdrus bidwilli (N.Z. cedar), Dracophyllnm traverrii and Draeobylhim longifolinm (grass trees), Quintanilla sorrata (Kumarahou or N.Z. lilac), rhyllocladus triehomanoidcs (celery-topped pine), Olearia colensoi, Olearia angasufolia, Olearia avieennoefolia, Scnceio rotnndifolius, Sonceio laxifolius, Plagiantluis liyalli, Plagiantlius rubifolia. Du; 17dinm colensoi, Sei.Lcio heclori. Myrtus jen.duneulata, Caprosma colensoi, Drc.cophyllum sp., Epacris panciflora, Gaultheria rupcstris, Olearia uitida, Veronica barkcri, Veronica cupressioides, Scnceio eompactus. Veronica sp.. Veronica el lip--I,iea. Podocarpus lialli, Olearia ilieifoba. Being more than is required, a portion of the above will be sold by Messrs Williams anil Harper, at 2 p.m.. on_ Wednesday next. It will be a splendid opportunity for the public to get some rare N.Z. plants. To show how plants carry if well packed. Mr Travers has sent up a box for exhibition. He says “You will see bow the roots of some have grown in moss or anything round, merely stood up in the. boxes, and have been like that for over two months.”

These specimens are now being shown in Messrs 11. I. Jones and Sous’ window, and ure attracting considerable attention.
