In Favour of a Labour Party,

Mr. Russell, M.P., Challenges.

(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, .Inly G, Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P., addressed a mooting at Richmond to-night on tho need oi' a Labour I’arty in tho Now Zealand Parliament. lie strongly urged the formation of a Labour I’arty, snpimrted its programme, and said neither tho Government nor the Opposition had a policy, and ‘the policy submitted by the Labour I’arty teas the only one before the country. At the conclusion there was an animated discussion between Mr. Russell, M.P., in whose electorate the meeting was held and Mr. Taylor It was pointed out by Mr. Russell, that Air. Taylor had specifically stated that lawns not a menilHT of the Labour Party and would not sign its pledge. Mr. Taylor replying, said he would not be hound by any party ties, and as far as he was concerned, every candidate was free to sign or not as it pleased him. but he considered the Labour Party perfectly justified in taking some precaution to ensure that members elected to Parliament through the efforts of members of the party, will support the platform of the party.
