THE RIOTS AT MANCHESTER.

Press Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, July 6. Mr Askwith has gone to Manchester to endeavour to effect a settement. A squadron of Scots Greys at York and 400 of the Second Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment have > eon despatched to Manchester to assist in maintaining order.

, DUE TO ROWDIES. Received July 7, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, July G. There has been much rioting in Manchester, duo to rowdies, many of whom are boys. A force of 750 troops and 300 policemen lias arrived.

INDEMNITY TO OWNERS. Received July 7, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, July 6. Tlie Shipping Federation’s scale of indemnity to shipowners compelled to idle their vessels varies from 2d to Jd per ton per day, according to the gross register.

MINERS STRIKE IN SYMPATHY, A Mayor and the Riot Act. LONDON, July 6. The, millers in two collieries at Salford have ceased work out of sympathy for the dockers. Several cotton mills have closed owing to the shortage of coal. The Mayor of Salford has placarded the borough with a warning that the Riot Act is likely to ho read.

CARTERS’ DEMANDS. LONDON, July 6. The carters at Manchester ask for a 54 hours’ work, official recognition of the union, 275. per week for drivers of ouo horse, and 295. for drivers of two horses, being an increase of 2s.

STRIKE RIOTS AT AMSTERDAM. Received July 7, 11.20 a.m. AMSTERDAM, July G. Tiiero. has been strike rioting in the shipping quarter. The. police were stoned. Troops and rioters exchanged shots, and three rioters and a policeman were wounded. ,
