GIRL'S AWFUL DEATH.

A shocking accident occurred at the residence of Mr A. Patten,; Railway/ Street, Granville, about half-past nine o’clock on the morning of March 21. Three of his children —two boys about seven and eight years, and a giri about three years old—were playing in an old shed, about 30tt away from the house. It is supposed that they were playing at locking one another in, when suddenly the place took fire, probably through some loose straw becoming ignited by some unknown means, tin a few moments the whole place was ablaze, and the screams of the little one inside and of her frightened brothers outside the building, stirred the neighbourhood; The parents rushed down, only to find they could do nothing. It was impossible to get near the place, which was now a roaring mass of flame. The Fire Brigade was summoned, but the ‘ place was, almost burnt down before it arrived. When the fire was got under, a search was made for the little girl, and her charred remains were found in the ruins.
