The first games in connection with the residential championships of Wanganui were played last evening. In the Ladies’ Singles Mrs Hesse defeated Miss S. Davey, 9—2. The score hardly represents the match, which was very even throughout, most of the games beixg vantage ones and all very close. Mrs Hesse now plays Miss Barkman, and-the winner of that , game meets the winner of the game between Miss Cave and Miss Barley in the final. , In the men’s .championships, Messrs Davies and Lanipe met. Davies took the first set somewhat. easily, 6—l, his Jobbing quite nonplussing his! opponent. In the second set Lampe improved and a close battle ensued,. Lampe winning, 6—4. The final set saw Davies: tire and Lampe' improve, with the result that the latter , took the set and 'match, I—6, 6—4, 6—o. EASTER TOURNAMENT. Word has been received that there will be a large number of visiting players here for Easter. Several Aucklanders have expressed their intention of coming, while others will attend from Wellington, Dannevirke, Palmerston, Eejjding, and New Plymouth. Morpeth, last' year's champion, is in good form and is in the final of the Auckland championship. Yt is probable he will be here to defend his title. The match between Patea and Wanganui representative team, which could not be played on the 17th inst., lias now been fixed for April Bth, Saturday week. The local representative team will he picked next week.
