The draft of stations for the permanent staff under the new_ Defence scheme wai issued last .-week, and we note that S.S.M Peacock, who has been stationed at uam ganui for several years past, is. transferrec to Auckland as S.S.M. to the Auckland Battalion. We are sure that all lank; in No. 2 Battalion will learn with _ regret of his impending departure, as during hn lengthy stay here he has himseh. a zealous and efficient officer. Ihe relations between the officers of the BattaLoi and the S.S.M. as the representative oi the Defence authorities have been alway; of .tho most cordial. Apart from the efficient discharge of his duties, Mr Peacock has always been ready to assist al any public function where his experience of things military was of value. We wish Mr Peacock every success in his new dis trict, and regret oxtremeljvhis early de partnre, WANGANUI RIFLES.

Wo note with pleasure that- Corporal J. Morrison, of the above corps, who won! through the camp of instruction at Tore horeuika, has been appointed a staff sergeant instructor, and.posted to Feilding. S.S.I. Morrison has been a member of the .above corps for close : on two years, and during that'time his excellent example o! soldierly efficiency has been of inestimable benefit to his comrades. S.S.I. Morrison served for several years on the Scots Guards before coming to the Dominion, and at the time of his discharge from the Imperial Army he was senior corpora! in his battalion, and in possession of a second-class Army certificate. Within a few months of his- arrival in the Dominion, S.S.I. Morrison had re-enlisted in our Territorial Army, and his Imperial training standing him in good stead,, he has now tho .opportunity of exercising t: tho full -his soldierly 1 talents. .Though hispresence will be missed by officers and men of his company, nevertheless they will all be pleased at his well-earned promotion to tho permanent staff. THE TEENTHAM MEETING.,. It redounds very much to the credit o' the senior company that they should take as many as ten members to the Championship) meeting, and it is peculiar to note how their pre-eminence-in shooting lias continued for many years past. Though Captain Cunningham (who; was in charge of the team) and his men did not bring back the belt, nor any of the big “pots," still every member of the team bar one won something, and the total winnings oi the team was somewhere about £3O. Gaptain Cunningham was Uie most successfu. of tho 10, getting thirty-fourth .place, in. the King’s 50; and fifth in the Bisley aggregate, besides being well placed in several of the other matches. Colour-Sergeant Harrison shot very prominently throughout, and with a match to g - o, was lying about fourth or fifth in the aggregates. The last match, however, proved Ins 'downfall, as it did that of many'other prominent, shots, and he missed .‘The fifty’,’ by four-points. The. team won the Surprise Target Match, hitting 10 out of the 18 figures with 13 hits. This was a veryinteresting match. Three targets, on which wore painted six figures, each raised for 40 seconds at unknown distances', the team when each target was raised adjusting their sights to the range and firing' as- many rounds as possible. Curiously enough. General Godley and his staff were present when the team fired, and, .in fact, it was. the only, team ke saw fire in this match, and the men "verc very pleased at-, their win against the 40 other teams who fired. PRESENTATION. On Tuesday night the -Wanganui Rifles presented Staff-Sergt.-Major T. Morrison with a handsome suit case, and tho N.C.O.’S of .the- company gave him ,a travelling rug as a memento' of his association with them. Captain Cunningham voiced the sentiments of the corps when he said that- S.S.T. Morrison was one of ■the finest men the company had ever hud, and his example had been a worthy one. The company gave him three cheers, and wished him every prosperity in flic filau’c.
