DESTRUCTIVE BUSH FIRES.

(Per United Press Association.) PAHIATUA, March 29. Fires arc raging in the Akitio County. A strong westerly breeze on Monday even ing made them spread rapidly, and almost all the country between the summit of the Puketoi ranges, near Mr 0. Sykes', to the Puketoi district, is a mass of flames. Loss of property is also reported from Mangatiki. A whare was burnt down yesterday afternoon. The mail man could not get through, and the telegraph line from Mangitiki to Makuri is down. The residenee of Mr W. Bagley, on the Bange Road, has been destroyed, and Mr T. Stone’s residence at the Cross Roads was in danger. At Coonoor an old creamery belonging to Mr S. Bolton, has been destroyed.
