GERMAN TOWN ENCOURAGES SAVING. BERLIN, March 25. The Mannheim Council has in hand a project under -which . all workers, of either sox, will be eligible for benefits. If a person earns up to. .£7 10s a month, has lived-in the municipality for 12 months, and has a deposit in tho Municipal Savings Bank, he will, in case of being deprived of work, receive up to lOd a- day until half the amount of the bank deposit is reached. Thus, if a man has-saved.,£lo, the bank will give him, if necessary, .£5 extra in case of loss of work, which he will be able to draw at the rate of lOd day. This will mean that the more a man keeps iu the bank tlm more .out-of-work relief ho will get, and it will also obviate the necessity for drawing on his banking account when he has a week or so of idleness.
