THE BAGDAD RAILWAY.

Press Association. —Tel e graph. —Copyright. BERLIN, March ?7. The Frankfurter Zeitung’s Constantinople correspondent states, in connection with the proposed formation of a new company to build and operate the Gulf section of the Bagdad railway, that Turkey reserves to herself 40 per cent, of the shares, and offers 20 per cent, each to Britain, France, and Germany. In an interesting article last month, the Paris correspondent of the Times said: “While it is acknowledged that an Anglo-Frauco-Turkish solution presents •the best chances of success, it is not forgotten that due regard will have.to be paid to German susceptibilities. Nevertheless,’ it is not believed that Germany, as the professed patron of Turkey, will decline to acquiesce in any settlement which safeguards Turkish interests. In some quarters it is stated that Germany lias provisionally arranged with' the Porte that the Germans and the British are each to participate in an equal proportion of from 40 per cent, to 45 per cent, in the control of the Gulf section of the Bagdad railway, while the remaining 2(1 per cent, or 10 per cent, would be as-signed--ito Turkey. Without in any way suo-gesting that Great Britain is likely to accept this arrangement, French -opin ion is inclined to believe that the British Government will certainly insist upon obtaining control of the terminus arid perhaps also of the section from Basra -to Kowcit.
