McVilly presiding. , A reply,.was received from the Auckland Centre in regard to ‘the Wellington Centre’s inquiries respecting the Gillies case." - ' .: ■ Harrison, a professional, was alleged to have competed in amateur .events 'at the Wanganui Caledonian Society’s meeting on January 23 under the name of W. Davis, and W. H. Gillies, an amateur, was alleged to have competed against him. knorving Min to be a professional. ' The matter'had been reported td. the Wellington Centre, which wrote to the Auckland Centre asking that inquiries he made. The Auckland Centre now stated that W. I[. The, Auckland Centre had held two further meetings in regard to this affair. On March 16 W. H. Gillies attended at the request of the Centre, and in reply to the chairman gave a.general denial to the statements’made by Haytvard and Davies. At a later meeting it had been decided that, in view of additional evidence being addiiced, ■ and- the non-compliance-of Gillies -with the request Of. the Centre to furnish declarations from himself and Harrison that they were, not known to eaclr other previoris to'the Wanganui meeting bn January 23, the Auckland Centre was of opinion that Gillies had been guilty of a violation of the amateur-.definition’. 1 : Letters sent to the Auckland Centre by F. A. Hayward, AV. H. Gillies, and A. ti. Gyllies were enclosed. The chairman moved that Gillies be formally reported) to the New Zealand Aathletic Council, and that copies of the evidence given at the inquiry held by the Auckland Centro be enclosed;— This was agreed to. .
