The meeting was strongly against the proposed change, opinions being that it would cause considerable dislocation and- loss o" trade, and would specially injure small shopkeepers. A strong committee .was pointed to work for the retention of the Wednesday half-holiday, it resolution was passed protesting against the clause hi the Shops ai»d Offices Act allowing-munici-pal electors to decide the day for' the halA holiday closing of shops, considering the clause harassing and against-the interests of the, business community.
