MORMONS IN ENGLAND.

CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE MOVEMENT.

Press Association.—Telegraph.-Copyright. LONDON, March 22.

The Countess of Chichester, speaking at Chester, denounced the propagation' of the Mormons in England. She said 555 girls wore decoyed to Salt Lake City last year. Large colonies of Mormons were established in Tottenham, Liverpool, Essex, and Ireland.

The crusade against the Mormons which was initiated by the International Reform Bureau at Washington some time ago is now being actively carried on in England. Recently Mr P. Freece, the bureau’s special delegate, who is now staying in London, said he had succeeded in locating over 100 Mormon meeting places and 325 Mormon priests who had come direct from the United States for the purpose of inducing young women to emigrate to Utah. He has also collected signed statements from : the of those women who hav« been; lured to Amei'ica, and is in possession of evidence that the Mormon.Church bears of the cost of transportation of converts, from England to Utah, which seriously violates the United States immigration law. Air Freece is now endeavouring to interest the Archbishop of Canterbury in the campaign. The Bishop of Liverpool 'and several members of Parliament are already supporting tlie movement. Mr Freece entertains great hopes that a measure will be put through Parliament prohibiting American Mormon elders from proselytising in England. This, ho said, had already been don© in Prussia arid Hungary.
