CANADA AND NEGROES. Press Association.—Telegraph.-Copyright. Received March 23, 8.5 a.m. OTTAWA, March 22. The negroes were not refused admission, but were only detained pending inquiries as to whether the immigration laws do not discriminate against negroes. WASHINGTON, March 22. The State Department lias sent an official to Ottawa to secure the immigrants their rights.
A cable received yesterday, stated that 165 negroes, bound to Albcrtalaiid; were refused admittance into the country. It is feared they will drift into the Canadian cities.
