WANGANUI BRANCH N.Z. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. The first steps towards preparation for the approaching football season were taken by the Wanganui Referees' Association at its meeting on Saturday evening last. The attendance was somewhat meagre, but the business was dealt with satisfactorily under the guidance of the chairman, Mr L, E. Bassett. OFFICERS. —The following officers were elected: —Chairman, Mr L. J. Furrie; Classification Committee; Messrs J. Wesney and H. Tilley; Appointments Committee : Mr H. Tilley. The appointment of the hon. secretary was held over till next meeting, as was that of the delegate to the Referees’ Conference, which is to be held in Wellington af Easter. : VICE-PRESIDENT N.Z. ASSOCIATION —lt was decided to nominate Mr L. J. Furrie as a vice-Presideut of the N.Z. Referees’ Association. - NEXT MEETING.—It was decided that the next meeting be held on Saturday, Bth April, and that in the meantime a special effort be made to enroll new members.

Unless the ranks of the local branch of the N.Z. Referees’ Association are recruited, there is every likelihood of there being a dearth of referees during the coming season. It is understood that there will probably be more-senior ch’bs playing under the Union this season than for some •vears past, as Waverley is said to be go''wfng to compete for the Cup, while the Old f Bovs may re-form. In the circumstances lit. is essential that-recruits from the ranks of retired players should come forward and assist the Association to carry out its numerous engagements. This is the more necessary, since two or three of those who have acted in the past contemplate having a spell from refereeing this year. There are numbers -of old players well fitted to officiate, and it is to be sincerely hoped that they will join the Association, and assist it to carry out its engagements. WANGANUI CLUB. Thera was a large attendance of mem-' bers of the above club in Dusnu's Rooms last evening, when the annual general meeting was held, Mr Alf Gray presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The report showed that the club bad been runners-up in the senior, junior, and fourth grades last season. The clnb’s financial position is good, there being a small credit balance. In this connection the thanks-of the club are extended to Dr. A. H. E. Wall, and Messrs H. W. Cooper and John Stevenson for their financial assistance. Mr L. J. Southcoml« bad the honour of again winning the Wakefield Cnp, as the best all-round player in the team. Your committee much regret the loss the club has sustained in tho departures of Messrs F C. Atkinson (club captain). Gordon Aiken, and F. S. Swan, all of whom have worked hard towards the success of the Club. ACCIDENT ASSURANCE.—A circular from the Wanganui Rugby Union re accident assurance for players was read, auu on the motion of Mr L. J. Southcom’ue. it tra s decided to support the scheme. OFFICERS. —The following officers were elected for lie ensuing year ;—President Air. A. H. E. Wall; vice-presidents, Messrs £\ Gray, J.
