Spriggens. i BALANCES. —The following balances were reported:—District fund, dr., ,£3204 8s Sd; temporary loans, dr., £19,488 14s lOd, £12,000 gas loan, cr., £ll. Its ;8d; , £15,000 gas loan, cr., £147 8s 3d; £11,500 jstreet loan, dr.‘, £639 18s 7d. '. RESIGNATION. —Cr. Carson forwarded ;his resignation, on account of the disqualification imposed by the recent legiola- - lion.—Accepted with regret, the Council's appreciation of Cr. Carson’s long and valuable services to the "borough to be placed, ■on record. W ORES .—Follow in g was the report' of the Works' 'Coiniriitt'oci dated 22nd December Re Mri C. P. Brown's bilildnlgi corner of Brunswick 1 Road: The Committee; met Mr Brown and' offered to remove the -building to the site selected by him, pro- . vided the owners would pay oue-lialf of the cosht of removal to such site, and take all risk of damage by removal. The deputy-' Mayor was authorised to, receive the own owner’s acceptance of the offer or otherwise, and to deal with the matter. Re • proposed alteration of the Wanganui Bridge Abt: That' the Minister of Public Works be informed that, as the proportion of the cost of maintenance of the bridge, was adjusted by agreement between the county and the borough, when the boundaries were altered by inclusion of a part of the county (Durietown) in the Wanganui''borough, and'as this Council believes that a similar adjustment was mad© between the county and the borough of Wanganui East,'-when the latter district was created and severed from the county, the Wanganui Borough Council is of opinion that the proposal to niter the Bridge Act is necessary. Re Public Museum: That the trustees be informed that their, application for increase in subsidy will be considered when the'estimates for the coming year are being- framed. Re taylorville: That Mr W. W. Hipahgo be informed that at present there, is a street in Taylorville named Hipahgo Terrace. Re Walker’s artesian well: That the deputation that waited, on the Council-at its last meeting be informed-that-the'Council- will allow' water pipes being laid in the streets in Aramoho, during the pleasure of the Council, and provided they are laid-to the satisfaction of, the Borough Engineer, but should any 'of the pipes at any time be in the way of work being carried out by the borough, the obstruction must be remo v ed by and at the expense of the owners. Also that the depivtatiou be informed that the Council intend to proceed with the laying of the Okehu water service as soon as the proposed loan for that purpose luis been carried. Re culverts at Aramoho; That instructions be given to at once proceed with the work of strengthening the culverts at Field’s Creek, and at the creek at the native reserve, and that the cost of same, estimated at £l5O, he paid out, of the £29,000. Draught horse: That the Council advertise, for a first-class draiight horse. —Adopted:

GAS.—Following was the report of the Gas Committee, dated 22nd December.;— Be tenders for condensers: The committee has accepted, the tender submitted by cable by , (be London -agent's, £540 cost in Wellington- : Ra- gas' -to Aramoho: The committee report- having -instructed the Engineer to proceed with the work of laying'a 3-inch -main to supply gas to Aramoho as far as Quick Avenue.- —Adopted. General Business, VICTORIA PARK.—Adjutant Powick wrote thanking the Council for use, of Victoria Park for .the Salvation Army picnic on Boxing and New ■ Year’s-- Days.— Received.—The use of the park was granted to the Aramoho Methodist Sunday School for the 23rd inst,, also to the* Primitive Methodist Sunday School for the same date, the usual conditions to be observed* ' THANKS.—Messrs Raphael Tuck and Sons, London, wrote thanking the Council for boo kof Wanganui River views.—Received.

CAMP.—Captain. limes applied for use of part of Recreation Ground known as Brennan’s paddock, for camp for local Territorials, commencing February 4th.— Granted, TENNIS.—'The Aramoho Tennis Club wrote asking if the Council would lease about an acre of land, in the borough reserve near the pound, for tennis courts.— Referred to’the Reserves Committee. OPERA. HOUSE—Messrs John' Fuller and Sons applied for the 'Opera House on Good Friday evening, for the purpose of holding a, sacred entertainment.—Decided not to entertain the application.

ACCOUNT.—Mr G. W. McCaul forwarded account for £4 4s. on behalf of Mr. It. Garrett, for plan accompanying petition for amalgamation of Durietown with the borough.—Referred to the Finance Committee!

REBATE.—Mr I. Salck. applied for rebate of rates on a. shop in Salck’s buildings and a house in Bell Street, both of which have been empty for 12-. months. — Preferred to the Finance Committee. GASWORKS LOAN.—-Letter from the Mutual Life arid Citizen’s Assurance. Coy. offering to take up balance of gasworks loan in instalments of £IOOO each, or one of £2ooo.—Referred to the Gas Committee.

STANDARD SURVEY.—The Department of Lands wrote stating that the standard survey of the borough would lie undertaken very soon, but a definite date could not bo fixed at present.—Received. ZOO.—Mr J. J. Boyd, proprietor of the Aramoho Zoo wrote stating that! ho had a right to expect that the Council should ■give him some cncburagcmeiit te make the Zoo pay. The trains, he said, never paid till the Zoo came, he had had a lot of persecution from the,police and the Government but no help from the Council, arid the latter might send the Garrison Band to play in the Zoo now and then, also form a footpath to the gates. He.had an. offer of an opening in' Auckland, and it would pay the Council to induce him to stay hero.— Resolved that the Garrison atfd.'Citjr'Barids. be asked to give two.concerts each at. the Zoo, on dates to be arranged with ■Mr Boyd, also that the engineer put the! footpath in temporary repair till such time as the standard survey enables it;to be' formed permanently. CLAIM.—Mr H. Rice wrote notifying the Council of damage caused to his motor car by it getting into an open culvert, well out oxr the road but overgrown with grass, on Dude Hill. The accident happened when he . was turning the car round. . He expected the Council to make good the damage, the ..amount of which he would forward when it wag!available.—Referred to the Works Committee. INFECTIOUS DISEASES.—Letter from the Publiq Health Department, .stating that the Hospital Boards would control infections'diseases in future, but suggesting tbdk:till the necessary transfer is effected,' the Council continue to act as controlling authority.—Referred to the Sanitation Committee.
