Aramoho School Committee.

TO THE EDITOE. . Sir, —Whoever supplied you with the paragraph that appeared in the “Herald” of Tuesday last was evidently trying to make a mountain cut of a mole-hill when he spoke of the lapsing of School Committee meetings-and the cutting off of the water supply. The artesian water supply was cut off—for two days. I thought the Committee had heard all there was to be said about it. but the statement about children Laving to wash in, and drink from, the stream alongside the playground is something fresh. Certainly there was no reed for it unless, perhaps, in the fertile imagination of your informant. One man complained bitterly upon the subject, persisting in speaking over and over again on it and ibe lapse of meetings, forgetful of (he fact that the year before last when lie was elected- on to the Committee he attended only two meetings, and that last year when he was clecte.d again, he attended no meetings at all. This year he was not elected. I remember one nio-ht when we were waiting in the cold for one more member to come to make up the quorum we spoke to him on the telephone and got the reply that, having changed b:s boots, be was not disposed to leave bis 1: reside. To understand. Monday night’s

little storm in the teacup you must look, not to the Committee’s doings, but to some little childish neighbours"' .squabble. It would have been far more. satisfactory if 'the individuals concerned had adjourned to the playground to settle .their differ- . enoes whilst the meeting got bn with business. A School Committeeman’s position is bad enough without his having to listen to this sort of thing from those objectionable- householder's whose energy is all wasted upon fault; finding. Only one of the old Committee was re-elected. All the others present declined to stand again.— I am, etc., AN OLD HAND. P.S.—A vote of’thanks to the retiring Committee was carried'' without question or dissent.
