Two now appointments to commissions have recently been made in the local Territorial corps. Mr. J. R. Hughes has been appointed acting-lieutenant of the Wanganui Rifles, while Mr. D, Mnnro will fill a similar rank in tho Irish Rifles, Both officers will sit for the usual examination in duo course.

> The weather bureau reports as follows: —Easterly, but veering, and there are indications for northerly moderate strong v. inds. Winds freshening after sixteen hours. Indications for fair weather. Class little movement, but fall slowly after sixteen hours; tides moderate; sea moderate.
