The Coroner’s inquiry into the death of Hansen, drowned by (die sinking of the Kurrajong, after collision with the Wyreema on March 8, found that the collision was brought about by the culpable negligence of Captajn Meaburn, of the Wyreema, and committed him for trial for manslaughter.
The steamer Wyreema, outward bound, collided with the collier Kurrajong in Sydney Harbour. The collier sank infive minutes, and one man (Harrison) was drowned. The Wyreema struck the Kurrajong a terrific blow at right angles amidships, and almost cut her in halves. The Wyreema immediately lowered a boat and rescued the crew with the exception of the one man. At the time it was said that the collision was apparently due to the Kurrajong, in seeking to avoid a sailing craft, getting right across the Wyreema’s course.
