PERSONAL.
On Monday evening the. hockey referees' presented Mr V/. Miller, who has been transferred to Carterton, with a silver whistle, as a small token of the esteem in which he is hold by players and referees alike. Mr ' Miller has represented Wanganui in the hoc.'cy held with distinct success, and as a referee his place will be hard to fill. Miss Marjorie Kcrnalian, -.who, up to December last was a pupil of Ei’st Christchurch School, is now continm.'g her studies at Wanganui Girls’ College. She won a National Scholarship at the last examinations, and was also dux of the school on the girls’ side, but had to leave Canterbury owing to the removal of her, family to the North Island. Miss May Pudncy, formerly of Christchurch, travelled to Australia in the same steamer as Madame Calve, the celebrated vocalist. Madame Calve took a great deal of interest in Miss Pudney, and she has, at Madarae’s earnest request, consented to remain in Melbourne to act as interpreter for her. Madame Calve does not speak English well, and Miss Pudney has had to conduct all the interviews. Messrs. Norman and Ettrick (“Kick”) Christie, the youngest sons of Mrs. H. Christie, Ingostre Street, left to-day lob Ohaknnc, whore they arc commencing business on their own account. Mr. Norman Christie was last evening tendered a formal send-off and a presentation by the Baptist Endeavour Society and Bible Class, with which he lias for years been prominently' associated, and his brother was similarly complimented by the Wei- j linaton Bantist Church a few nights ago. Mr. H. W. Kirkwood, the well-known | artist, is about to take up his residence i in Wanganui. i
