12 O’clock Closing.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In answer to the letter by “Worker” im yonr last issue* oh bbhalf of shop assistantsl-should like to phint out, as far as I am aware, the dressmaker's and tailors who are employed by retail establishments in Wanganui work independently of' the shop hours, having their half day on Saturday and the 12 o’clock closingon Thursday, instead of one o’clock,, making no difference in their hours. So those who lose .an., hour, as “Worker” states, must be very few. As he, however, accuses us of selfishness, may we- not ask him to be willing to be one of the few to suffer a small loss in order to benefit what he must admit to be the majority, the shop assistants 'overwhelmingly outnumbering'' those on behalf of whom “Worker” writes. We are jsure the public of Wanganui will respond to our appeal, to help us retain this privilege by supporting only those estab : iishxnents .who consider their assistants.—l am, etc., ASSISTANT.
