to light in a manner confounding to their opponents. These were Victoria College, who scored an easy win over Old Boys, and Southern, who held their own after a stuborn fight with-Oriental. Results: St. James’s beat Petone 14 to nil; Athletic beat Hutt 16 to nil; -Melrose beat Wellington 6 to 3;. Victoria ..beat Old Boys 8 to 3; Oriental drew with Southern, no score. > In the Association Senior games Swifts beat Rovers one to nil; Diamonds eat Y.M.C.A. 2 to 1; Thistles beat Ramblers 2 to 1. ■ WANGANUI RUGBY UNION CUPJ. A friendly fixture took place on Victoria Park on Saturday last, when the following players represented their clubs; Eastown—Proctor (goal), Morrison and Stewart (backs), Wells, Walpole* and Robson (halves), F. Phillips, Adams, Beckett, Buck, and A. Phillips (forwards). Wanganui—Eadie (goal), Gillisou and Beckett (backs), Natta. Baloh. and Davies (halves), Verpillot, Malcolm, Puckridge, Bell, and Totty. Mr Wyllie officiated as referee, and gave every satisfaction to, both teams. Wanganui were below their usual strength. Black, Oliver, Bannerman, and Aitkcn- being absent. The game, which ended in favour of Eastown by 2 goals to 1, was one of the fastest and best contested yet seen in the district. Eastown early took up the running, and at the interval the scores stood Eastown 2 goals, Wanganui 1. Adams and F. Prillips scored for the winners, and Beckett scored for the town club. On resuming, Wanganui took the game in hand and had the hardest of luck in not equalising before the call of time. Only the sterling defence and'brilliant goal-keeping; of Eastown saved them. A draw would ■have been a more satisfactory result to a-well-fonght game on the run of play. Towards the finish the Wanganui forwards pressed heavily, and it would only have i-een their due had they scored at least once. Drastic changes were noticeable in the Wanganui team. Gillison and Beckett, in the hack division gave a really firstclass exhibition, particularly Gillison, whose kicking and tackling and clover footwork was quite a- treat to watch. This player was easily the best back on the field, and the Wanganui Club could not do better than keep him in that position. Davies and Baloh were the pick of the halves. Davies being the most prominent la---r in this trio. In the forward divosion Puckridge, Bell, and Malcolm were outstanding, and gave of their best. Eastown were best served by Proctor, Morrison, ami Stewart, the latter being, if anything, the better back of the trio on the day’s play. Proctor, the goal-keeper, was in tiptop form and gave .a great display between the uprights. In the half line Walpole and Robson were the-pick, and proved a great; stumbling block to the opposition. In lh£ forwards Adams and F. Phillips played* very nicely on the right wing together. Beckett, at centre, was always there, hut owing to the great defence of Wanganui he didn’t have a chance to shine-.' On the left wing Buck and A. Phillips had a few runs together, hut Gillisou easily- kept them well in hand and never for a moment gave them a chance tp’he dangerous. This was the opening game of the season. The ground was in grand condition/
