He details the accident, describes the cause, and the steps taken to endeavour to rah e the boat, fie also expresses regret at los.mg the boat and the lives of the officers and crew, whose heroism was worth the highest praise. The letter then ends oy the writer of the statement saying that he had reached such a stage of asphyxiation that the greatest difficulty was found in but that he was praying to the Emperor to succour the families of the officers and men who perished.
