UNIVERSITY SENATE.

(Per United Press Association.) • DUNEDIN, January 27. At the University Senate to-day the Music Committee presented a report recommending that, following a suggestion , from Dr Bradshaw, the statute dealing with entrance or matriculation examination in music he,added to by requiring caiwidates to show a satisfactory knowledge of harmony. Another recommendaJ tion (as amended-before adoption) was that the following reply be sent to the Uni- , versity of Melbourne, in answer to a letter received from its Senate:—“ The Sen- ' ate regrets, whilst it is in sympathy with the principle of co-operation in examina- '' tions in music in the Commonwealth, it • can for the present give no definite expression of opinion as to the conduct of . ■ such examinations by the University of p Melbourne so far as they relate to- New Zealand.” The committee reported that ; the recess committee on music are not prepared as yet to report to the Senate as ' to what encouragement the affiliated col- ** leges are prepared to give for the estab- ■ lishment of a conservatorium of music in New , Zealand, and asks leave to report at ; the next annual meeting of the Senate, the / Music' Committee of the present session to ; be the next recess committee on music.”
