The first round of the pair-oar races for the valuable trophies kindly ' given by Miss R. Bull, Aramoho, and open to those not competing hr regatta crews, was commenced on Monday night. Hodge met Blair. At the start Blair unfortunately missed his seat and lost a couple of lengths. He, however, rowed determinedly and held his own, but Hodge always held the lead and won by about three lengths. Dewson and Blanchard then faced the starter. A very oven start was made. Dewfeon then gained slightly, and later increased his advantage to three-quarters of a length. 1 . For* some' time no change took place,. At.a quarter mile from home Blanchard began to gain, and at a hundred yards to go both crews were level. Blanchard made a final effort, but unfortunately slipped on his seat, and though he afterwards gained was beaten after a fine race by two feet.
