LOST FROM THE HAUROTO.

THE SHIP’S BUTCHER MISSING.. (Per United Frees Association.) WELLINGTON, January 23. Shortly after the Hanroto left Barotonga for Wellington on the 17th inst., it transpired that the ship's butcher, William White, was missing. This was on the morning of the 16th’, and a thorough search ■of the ship failed to discover any traces of the man. He had been talking the previous night with one of the engineers, this being after the vessel had taken her departure for Wellington. It is*possible that White, who was about 35 years of age, had accidentally fallen overboard. 1 It is reported that the man had been in depressed spirits and appeared to .be suffering from melancholia. Not much seems to be known about White, except that he came from Hastings, England. It was not ascertained to-day whether he had any relations in New Zealand.
