LOSS OF A BARQUE.

STRIKES A REEF. Catches Fire After Being Beached. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 26. Two of the officers and the crew of tne Norwegian barque Amicus arrived by the Tofua to-day. They report that the Amicus. bound for Hamburg, and loaded with copra, struck a reef at Haapii Harbour. She was beached on the shore, and a gang was employed discharging the- cargo when the vessel caught fire, presumably from an explosion among,the cargo. The hull was completely gutted/ The captain remained at Haapii. One of the crew; of the wreck-ed-vessel named Peder Halvoisn'disappeared from the Tofua' while iii the Islands. It is supposed he was drowned.
