WANGANUI AND TARANAKI.

The Anglican General Synod has set np a committee to take steps to at once constitute. a new diocese. Thcte seems to be some reason why the Wanganui district should be constituted part of the proposed new diocese. In fact, the amalgamation of Wangpnui and Taranaki, in other than church matters, would probably result in as much advantage to Wanganni as if it remained part of Wellington, perhaps more. Being at the extreme end of the Wellington Provincial District, Wanganui has numerous disady§ntages. Two handy-sized Provincial Districts would be the result, instead of one small and one unwieldy district as now. Distances from headquarters would be reduced, time, trouble, and inconvenience would be saved, whether in church work, or Government work, or any other work. There is already some overlapping of the Wanganui and Taranaki districts, as in the case of the Beads Department and the Education Boards. There is no need for Wanganui or New Plymouth or any other .place to claim the right of being the provincial centre, but there do seem some good reasons for an alteration of boundaries. ■ • 1 .
